About the V-tree Fractal

The V-tree fractal creates a delicate branching structure using only V-shaped forks. Unlike full binary trees, it has no trunk segments -- only the forking branches, giving it a sparse, elegant appearance.

How It Works

Starting from a base point, two branches diverge at a specified angle forming a V shape. At the tip of each branch, another smaller V is drawn. The process repeats recursively, with each generation scaled down, producing an increasingly intricate canopy.

Properties
  • Self-similarity: Every sub-branch is a scaled copy of the entire tree.
  • Fractal dimension: Depends on the scaling ratio and number of branches.
  • Natural models: V-trees model certain plant growth patterns like fern fronds and coral branches.
  • Angle sensitivity: Small changes in the V-angle produce dramatically different shapes, from compact bushes to wide canopies.
